An adventure game belonging to the LEGO Star Wars franchise
LEGO Star Wars: Castaways is an adventure game with a significant social element. As with other games in the wider LEGO Star Wars franchise, it combines the characters, themes, location, music, and lore from the Star Wars universe. It also boasts LEGO brick-inspired aesthetics and the humor of LEGO-based visual media.
The game has obvious comparisons with the mainline LEGO Star Wars games like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It also shares similarities with Club Penguin.
A social adventure
The game serves as a departure from the main LEGO Star Wars series and has been described as a social action-adventure game. Players are able to create an original LEGO Star Wars mini-figure character and explore a previously unknown planet in the Star Wars universe.
Players can battle enemies, interact with other online 'Castaways,' fly spaceships, and more. Many of the characters in the game are unique to LEGO Star Wars: Castaways. The core gameplay loop tasks players with entering 'HoloSims' in order to relive classic moments from the Star Wars series and remove the corruption from each HoloSim. However, it is made distinct from the mainline LEGO Star Wars series through social components, allowing online players to interact and join each other's levels for co-op gaming.
There are simple puzzles, while plenty of collectibles in the game allow players to customize their character. While the online social components add to the fun, fortunately, the game offers full support for offline play. In addition, devices do not require an online connection to start loading the game.
